Mechanical Permits ensures that projects comply with the minimum standards that help safeguard life or limb, public health, property, and welfare. No part of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems shall be installed, altered, replaced, or repaired unless a Mechanical Permit has been obtained for the work.

Based upon your desired scope of work, a mechanical permit maybe a Simple “No-Plan” Mechanical Permit or a Plan (required) Mechanical Permit.

If your project includes a combination of electrical, mechanical equipment, and/or plumbing/gas, once you are in the online permitting portal you will need to get the guidance of a permit processing expert to help you through selecting a Simple No-Plan Combination Permit when you initiate the application process.

Simple “No-Plan” Mechanical Permit

Homeowners, property owners, and licensed contractors can obtain a no-plan Mechanical Permit for minor installations including:

  • Installations of a forced-air units (FAU) or air conditioner units (A/C)
  • Installations of exhaust fans
  • Replacement of furnaces

Plan (required) Mechanical Permit

Mechanical Permits ensure that projects comply with the minimum standards that help safeguard life or limb, public health, property, and welfare. No part of heating, ventilating, air conditioning or refrigeration systems shall be installed, altered, replaced, or repaired unless a Mechanical Permit has been obtained for the work except as exempted.

Applicants will receive their permit normally within two business days. An inspection can be scheduled once the invoice is paid and the permit is issued. All mechanical work associated with a building permit (including tenant improvements) is permitted as a component of the building permit. A separate permit will not be issued. If you are a subcontractor, please contact the general contractor or project manager to verify the proper plans were reviewed and approved for your portion of the work.
